Delivering an innovative destination awareness activity in the UK
To celebrate the Nevis Mango Festival and pay tribute to the delicious mango and the island of Nevis, the Nevis Tourism Authority has launched a strategic partnership with leading London restaurant, The Rum Kitchen.
The partnership will see The Rum Kitchen sponsor a month-long limited-edition Nevis Mango Festival menu, on offer at the restaurant brand’s flagship Soho site. Customers will be able to try the special menu for the whole month of July. Typically, the Nevis Mango Festival takes place the first weekend in July, however this year’s events are slated to be held virtually at a date to be announced.
The delicious dishes available have been created by Chef Halva Browne of Montpelier Plantation & Beach, who is well known for his traditional Nevisian cooking with a modern twist. A selection of mango-infused cocktails has also been created, to complement the new dishes.
A launch event to showcase the collaboration to UK press and VIPs took place on the evening of Wednesday 23 July, where guests had the opportunity to sample the new cocktails and dishes and speak to Nevis representatives to learn more about the island and the annual Mango Festival. A DJ played soca and reggae music, while a photographer and videographer captured guests at the event.
The event received positive feedback from attendees, who included press from The Telegraph, BBC, and Express, travel and food bloggers, and VIP influencers.
Jadine Yarde, CEO of the Nevis Tourism Authority, says: “The Nevis Tourism Authority is delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate the annual Nevis Mango Festival, for the first time on an international level, through this very special collaboration with The Rum Kitchen.”
“This is an innovative, new way for us to bring a piece of Nevis to Brits, through the sharing of our delicious local cuisine. As an authentic Caribbean restaurant, The Rum Kitchen is a great fit for us, and we’re excited to see the results from this strategic partnership.”
The following items will make an appearance on The Rum Kitchen’s menu for one month at the Soho restaurant (Kingly Court), debuting on 1 July*:
Three delicious hand-crafted Mango cocktails – Mango Swirl Daiquiri (rum, pineapple & mango), Mangove (rum, lime, guava & mango), and She Likes the Mango (rum, mango & chilli passionfruit syrup).
Chef Halva Browne says: “I am so proud to be working with The Rum Kitchen – we have amazing local cuisine here in Nevis, and to be able to showcase this on an international level is incredible. I hope that this collaboration inspires people to come to Nevis to try the local cuisine for themselves!”
Mike Parnham, MD at The Rum Kitchen says: “We are inspired by the diversity of the flavours found in the Caribbean, so we’re thrilled to partner with the Nevis Tourism Authority. We have learnt so much about the island, and the people we’ve met from Nevis have been wonderful and helpful.
“We’ve all worked really hard alongside Chef Halva Browne to create a menu that is inspiring and flavoursome, and hopefully brings the taste of Nevis to London. The mango festival is very special and hopefully something we will celebrate every year going forward now.”
